What this app is

Bench de Soleil is provided free of charge, for personal use, as an informational aid. It estimates sun and shade from open map data and a weather forecast. It is not a navigation, safety, or emergency tool.

No guarantee of accuracy

Bench, place, and sun/shade information is best-effort and comes from OpenStreetMap and public models. It can be incomplete, out of date, or wrong — a bench may not exist, or a sunny spot may be shaded in reality. Use your own judgement. The app is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind.

Acceptable use

Please use the app and its server fairly:

Reports and the content you submit

There is zero tolerance for objectionable, illegal, or abusive content. When you report a problem with a bench or place, you can add an optional note. By submitting a report or note:

Reports are handled automatically (no human reviewer) within strict, reversible daily limits. We may block a device's reports, withhold or remove a submission, and reverse any change at any time — including to comply with the law or to stop abuse.

Privacy

How the app handles your data is described in the Privacy notice (also in the app under Settings → Privacy). In short: your location stays on your phone except for a find-nearest request, and nothing personal is stored on the server.

Third-party data and services

Map and place data come from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL); building footprints and terrain from GeoDanmark and the Danish elevation model; the cloud forecast from Met Norway (CC BY 4.0); and walking directions open in Apple Maps or your maps app. Those providers' own terms apply to their parts.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the maintainer is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the app or its data. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under mandatory consumer law.

Changes

These terms may change as the app evolves; the date at the top is revised when they do. Continuing to use the app means you accept the current terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Denmark, without affecting any mandatory protections of the country where you live.
